Seal Island has historically been known as “Witte Klip” (White Rock) due to the large population of Cape fur seals that live there. Seal Island is approximately 5 acres (2 ha) of rock that is home to over 60,000 Cape fur seals. Therefore, the area around Seal Island becomes a primary feeding ground for great white sharks during some time of year.
